Center for Community-Based Research (CCBR)
Description
The Center for Community-Based Research (CCBR) is a transformative initiative that fosters collaborative research partnerships between and among the community at large, community organizations, ICTS academic institutions, community-based health providers, and researchers.
Specifically, the CCBR:
- Enhances the practice-based research networks (PBRN) of community practitioners affiliated with Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM).
- Provides training to actively engage community practitioners in clinical and translational research.
- Trains students and researchers on valued approaches to properly conduct community-based participatory research (CBPR) in culturally diverse populations using strategies developed collaboratively with our partners.
- Establishes core support functions to facilitate the participation of underrepresented populations in research by reducing barriers to participation in research, by increasing public trust, and by making research opportunities more accessible.
- Assesses community perceptions about research and needs for services.
- Works with community practitioners, provider organizations, health agencies, policy makers and trainees to improve the relevance, conduct and impact of research.
- Links the community to appropriate services (social, educational, and medical).
