Clinical Trials Unit

Description

The Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) was formerly known as the Center for Clinical Studies (CCS) Outpatient Unit and is located on the 11th floor of the Center for Advanced Medicine, Suite B. The CTU is an outpatient research unit that offers dedicated research space, equipment, and nursing support for a wide range of clinical studies, particularly multi-center clinical trials. The CTU generally supports studies that require less sophisticated or intensive measurements and procedures than those conducted in the Intensive Research Unit.

Services Available to ICTS Members

CTU Facilities and Equipment

  • Six outpatient exam rooms with basic equipment with staffing outlined below
  • One phlebotomy room
  • Laboratory specimen processing and packing area
  • Temporary workspaces for Clinical Research Coordinators, Monitors and PI’s
  • 2 long-term lounges for extended visits and/or IV infusions
  • Additional equipment including scale, access to emergency cart, portable ECG machine, IV infusion pumps, pulse oximeter

Personnel Support

  • Outpatient exam rooms staffed by 2 Nurses (both ACLS certified) and 2 medical technicians to assist PI’s and study staff from 7 am - 5:30 pm (out-patient studies that start earlier or end later can be accommodated by special arrangement with the unit administrator)
  • Research Nurse Coordinators and Data Managers for-hire (either hourly or based on % FTE). The CTU currently has 8 clinical research coordinators who are RNs (5 ACRP certified, 4 are ACLS certified), 2 Research Patient Coordinators, and 1 Data Control Coordinator, providing study coordination from pre-site to close-out visit.
