Enhancing the Visibility and Impact of Your Research
The ICTS, in cooperation with the Bernard Becker Medical Library, bi-annually offers a course in optimizing research discoverability and access. The first session was held on Wednesday, November 20, 2013. The slides from that presentation are available here.
This presentation covers various strategies for authors to consider as they undertake research. Repetition, consistency, and an awareness of the intended audience form the basis of most the strategies, which are divided into three categories: 1) Preparing for Publication, 2) Dissemination, and 3) Keeping Track of Your Research. After attending this workshop, participants will be able to better understand tools and approaches that can be used to quantify and document research impact as well as be aware of strategies to enhance research impact.
The approaches and ideas presented in this session can be used for such purposes as progress reports to funding agencies, and promotion and tenure activities. Scholars can also pull together meaningful stories about their work to accomplish a host of higher order activities which are critical in today’s biomedical research world, such as:
- Justifying future requests for funding
- Quantifying the return on research investment
- Discovering how research findings are being used
- Identifying possible collaborators
- Demonstrating that research findings are resulting in meaningful health outcomes
- Discovering community benefit as a result of research findings
The Bernard Becker Medical Library also maintains an "Enhancing Your Impact" site on their Tools for Authors section of their web pages.
