A Heart Function Study Seeks Diabetic Participants!  The purpose of this study is to determine if lowering blood fat levels improves heart muscle function in people with type 2 diabetes.  You may qualify if you are 30-65, have type 2 diabetes, and high triglycerides.  There are 4 study visits lasting 2-3 hours each.  Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either 12 weeks of fenofibrate or placebo.  $250 is provided upon completion.  Contact mfarmer@dom.wustl.edu or 314-747-3357.   2. Do you have pre-diabetes? Participants are needed for a research study to determine whether the muscle tissue in people pre-diabetes is different than those without this condition. You may qualify if you are 18 – 65 & do not use tobacco products. Participants w/ & w/o pre-diabetes are needed. There are up to 5 outpatient study visits.   3. Foot pain? The purpose of this research study is to test if lidocaine provides effective pain relief for your diabetes-related foot pain. Participants must be 18 or older, w/ diabetes & must have pain in their feet. There will be 2 to 3 outpatient study visits (about 10 hours total).   4. Participants 18-50 year old are needed! Dr. Ana Maria Arbelaez is conducting a study to better understand how the brain responses to low blood sugar. You may qualify if you are 18-50 years old, with or without type 1 diabetes & right handed. There are 2 or 3 study visits including an overnight stay.   5. Do you have peripheral neuropathy due to diabetes? participants are needed for a research study to look @ factors that combine to cause muscle, joint & movement deterioration in patients w/type 2 diabetes. You might qualify if you have type 2 diabetes, neuropathy & are 40-75 years old. This study lasts 3 years including 8 physical therapy visits. Up to $280 provided.   6. Pre-diabetes? Dr. Todd Cade will assess changes in metabolism in overweight and obese individuals with pre-diabetes after a session of resistance exercise. You might qualify if you are 30 to 65 years olds, have a body mass index 28-45 & have pre-diabetes. There are 3 study visits (5-11.5 hours each). There will be a muscle biopsy.   7. 18 – 50 year old participants are needed for a research study! This study will look at brain glycolysis in participants with and without type 2 diabetes.
