Pediatric Clinical Research Unit (PCRU)

The Pediatric Clinical Research Unit (PCRU) - formerly a component of the General Clinical Research Center, and now within the Center for Applied Research Sciences (CARS) - provides space and nursing and bionutritional support for clinical research projects conducted with children at Washington University in St. Louis. The current unit is on the 11th floor of St. Louis Children’s Hospital and has exam and interview room space, a procedure area, and a phlebotomy and sample processing area.

Treatment Rooms

  • 6 private exam rooms
    • 3 with exam tables - 2 with TV/DVD combo systems
    • 2 other pulmonary rooms
  • Interview conference room - Available on limited basis
  • Long-term treatment areas with entertainment options
  • 1 fully operational cognitive room
  • Secondary room for cognitive use

    • ECGs performed (no readings available)

    • Nutritional counseling and assessment
    • Research diet design and implementation
    • Calorie counts and full diet analysis
    • Dietary analysis of food records and dietary histories
    • Growth assessment and body composition
    • Development of education materials

Service Hours:
Monday - Thursday 7:00am - 5:00pm 
Friday 7:00am - 4:00pm
Closed on weekends
Off hour services available with advance notice and review/scheduling with the nurse manager.
