My overarching research interest is to address novel questions about Alzheimer’s disease (AD) via secondary data analysis of preexisting databases, some of which are underutilized. Use of archival data presents a number of advantages, including relatively inexpensive and rapid acquisition of data, large numbers of participants, and the ability to look at longitudinal questions using data spanning decades or more. Potential disadvantages include the fact that the data were often gathered for another purpose, incompleteness of data documentation, and difficulty in judging the data quality. My specific areas of interest currently include study of how cognitive reserve impacts the clinical expression of dementia symptoms among individuals with AD pathology, and how cancer might be related to AD risk.
