I am interested in the genetic determinants of neuronal differentiation and the role that mutations in these pathways play in disorders of neuronal development. Specifically, I am studying how ubiquitin signaling regulates heterochromatin formation and epigenetic maturation after neuronal progenitors exit mitosis. Through unbiased and rational approaches, we have identified several substrates that directly mediate these processes and are inappropriately stabilized following mutation in an E3 ubiquitin ligase. I employ diverse methods ranging from in vitro biochemistry through genetic mouse models, which permits in vivo examination of disease pathogenesis from the molecular and cellular through behavior.
