The primary mission of the Center for World Health & Medicine is to discover and enable clinical development of affordable new medicines for unmet medical needs with an emphasis on orphan diseases, neglected diseases, and diseases of poverty. The role of my lab is to apply molecular and cellular pharmacology to optimize lead compounds for testing in relevant in vivo models, and to develop target and mechanism biomarker assays that will support clinical translation. We are interested and actively engaged in preclinical studies which are aimed at providing new treatments for malaria, tuberculosis, diarrhea, and retinal degeneration. The lab also performs research investigating the role of integrins in physiology and disease.
