My current work in Dr. Stephen Beverley’s laboratory focuses on drug development against the neglected tropical disease, leishmaniasis. Current agents are toxic, expensive, or ineffective due to drug resistance. Targets of current interest include sterol synthesis, sphingolipid synthesis, and TOR kinases. By making use of luciferase expressing parasites, we are able to rapidly assess efficacy in culture or animal models.
