My clinical interest is primarily the underutilization of adult cochlear implantation. While an estimated 1.2 million US adults qualify for cochlear implantation (CI), less than 6% receive them due to a myriad of reasons. This has serious public health implications as undertreated hearing loss continues to have significant implications on social interaction, mental health, and the incidence of dementia in our aging US population. My research background is primarily in large administrative database studies and I am interested in harnessing large, geocoded databases to better study this subject.
