I aim to understand the variable behaviors and intentions families have at the bedside in the pediatric intensive care unit to decrease their child’s suffering and how these are associated with short term clinical outcomes such as pain, anxiety, and delirium, as well as long-term mental health and health-related quality of life for the child and family. I also aim to understand how variable interactions between families and the medical team and hospital system impact these outcomes.
