Dr. Good’s laboratory focuses on the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the development of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), a disease affecting the intestine of premature babies. Specifically, the Good Lab seeks to identify nutritional strategies to protect against NEC and determine the mechanisms involved in mediating the protection. In addition, a major challenge in the field of NEC research is the ability to determine which babies are at risk for NEC development, and the Good Lab is committed to identifying these high-risk infants.
