microRNAs are short RNA molecules that impose post-transcriptional regulation on gene expression. Several causal mutations in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) reside in RNA binding proteins and a common mechanism, regardless of mutation, is the dysregulation of microRNA biogenesis. Therefore, I am interested in studying the impact of microRNA dysregulation on ALS-relevant molecular pathways pathogenesis.
