My research is focused on human viruses, primarily hepatitis C virus, human immunodeficiency virus and, increasingly, flaviviruses such as Dengue and Zika. My work is split between directly screening for compounds that target known pathogens, and more fundamental work to understand the basic biology of these viruses. As the evolution of drug resistance is a continual complication to therapy, it is imperative to understand as much as we can about the biology of disease causing organisms, so that we may develop multiple independent families of antiviral therapeutics.
