Understanding of mechanisms of renal and cardiac injury in chronic renovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, and cardiovascular risk factors using translational large animal models and high-resolution imaging. Translational efforts to support the transition of fundamental knowledge and new treatments from bench to bedside. Therapeutic development (characterization, pre-clinical testing, toxicity, efficacy) of novel treatments to preserve and recover renal and cardiac function. Specifically, role of renal and cardiac microvascular rarefaction and inflammation in defining the progression of disease and the outcomes in response to targeted interventions. Use of drug delivery technology to define potential for microvessels to service as therapeutic targets (stimulation of renal angiogenesis and vascular repair) and targeted anti-inflammatory strategies.
