The NIH will transition from letters of support to letters of collaboration to increase efficiency and minimize applicant burden. Implementation is expected before the end of FY 2028. Letters of collaboration document any collaborative relationships with individuals who are not identified in the application as senior/key personnel or other significant contributors. Applications that continue to include letters of support after the implementation date may be returned without review. More information can be found here.
We advise all applicants to carefully consult the application instructions to ensure that the correct type of letter is requested.
Until the new format is implemented, traditional letters of support can be requested from the ICTS by emailing icts@wustl.edu. A template (doc) can be found here. Please allow at least 10 days to ensure the appropriate signatures can be secured.
