Sensory neurons play an integral role in host defense by both rapidly alerting the host to danger through eliciting protective behavioral responses and modulating inflammation. However, the specific mechanisms by which sensory neurons mediate these effects is just starting to be elucidate. Thus, I am currently investigating the role of sensory neurons in driving the development of chronic itch conditions and more recently, asthma.
