Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death, with a 30% national and global mortality rate and yearly cost exceeding $300 billion. Such diseases present clinically as heart attacks, strokes, and claudication, and although these clinical presentations are distinct, the pathogenesis of each is rooted in atherosclerosis. I am interested in uncovering mechanisms of atherogenesis as well as the sequelae of ischemic cardiomyopathy, the result of heart failure from coronary hypoperfusion, in an effort to uncover therapeutic pathways targeting both atheroregression and cardiac remodeling.
