Health disparities, maternal and child health, immigrant health, bioethics, are my primary research interests. I have conducted fieldwork in West Africa, the West Indies, Mexico, and among low-income immigrants in France. My research and teaching are primarily situated in the domain of gender and health, with a particular focus on reproduction, medical decision making, and the management of women’s health in low-income populations. I have recently begun research on understandings and management of breast and prostate cancer among African immigrants in Paris, focusing on how differences in explanatory models of physicians, patients, and families influence diagnostic and treatment strategies.
