Christopher R. Berghoff, PhD

Associate Professor of Medicine

Washington University in St. Louis (WU)

Dr. Berghoff’s research evaluates the relation of acceptance and mindfulness processes to the formation and maintenance of anxiety- and trauma-related disorders, and how these difficulties may impact physical health, preeminently digestive health. Through this work, he attempts to clarify how such processes influence behaviors in everyday life using daily diary and other intensive assessment procedures, as well as how such processes function within the context of psychological treatments. Anchored in cognitive behavior theory and treatments, his clinical and research efforts provide mindfulness meditation, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, and other acceptance-based behavioral interventions to participants and patients, with the aim of alleviating human suffering.
