I am interested in the computational principles underlying brain development. We study this using behavioral and neural imaging of zebrafish larvae combined with machine learning and mathematical modeling. Areas of current interest include the emergence of goal-directed behavior, the development of neural coding, neural criticality, sleep, and mathematical methods for analysing high-dimensional neural data. Besides normal development we also seek to understand how development is altered in Autism Spectrum Disorders.
