My research focuses on identifying biomechanical factors that contribute to the development of lower extremity musculoskeletal pain conditions (e.g. patellofemoral pain), and testing the effects of rehabilitation strategies based on this knowledge. A secondary focus is on determining the relationships between faulty lower extremity alignment and movement impairments and joint pathology (e.g. osteoarthritis). Data is obtained through the use of magnetic resonance imaging (joint contact patterns and cartilage morphology/physiology), 3-D motion analysis (joint angles and forces), and electromyography (muscle activation patterns).
