Our areas of research include basic and translational studies in advanced imaging studies to evaluate brain tumors. We have developed collaborations with a number of investigators in the Siteman Cancer Center. We use the Gamma Knife to radiate mice with and without brain tumors. We image these mice with and without brain tumors with advanced MRI techniques in collaboration with Dr. Joel Garbow. We have ongoing clinical studies with Dr Benzinger to investigate the role of similar advanced imaging techniques in patients with brain tumors that utilizes an active program to bank tumor tissue from the operating room and to correlate the histologic findings with imaging data. The overall goal of research is to improve imaging of tumor cells, in our patients and verified results in a parallel mouse model which will allow for better studies of imaging techniques as well as potential therapeutic strategies.
