For the past 10 years Dr. Spence is interested in clinical research as well as clinical research as it pertains to quality improvement efforts. For the past 10 years she has led quality improvement efforts in the NICU, most recently becoming involved in the improvement of the management of newborns and families affected by the opioid epidemic. At this time her interest is in translating the outcomes of care seen at tertiary referral centers to community hospitals, thereby allowing care to happen closer to home.
