I am interested in transdisciplinary approaches to the interplays of culture and mental health. My previous research has focused on how cultural meaning systems shape the ways in which young men in South Korea engage with their’s and others’ bodies, and how these engagements relate to risk for eating disorders. Because eating disorders research on men and across cultures has been limited, my research makes important methodological and theoretical advances by developing approaches deeply attuned to peoples’ meaning systems which may differ from the communities upon whom measures and treatments were originally developed.
