As an MD/PhD data scientist, my immediate research interest is in mining patient records for socioeconomic and environmental determinants of health, using geospatial data to refine patient-centered interventions targeting at-risk groups. In varied healthcare roles as a volunteer, student, and professional, I have experienced the challenges of meeting medical information needs while managing a busy patient workflow. Follow-on projects to conduct clinical workflow analyses and clinical usability studies will allow these practical models to be translated into clinical decision support to optimize community-based screening and intervention for metabolic disorders. Successful translation of geospatial evidence in metabolic disorders can then be leveraged to address other patient-centered outcomes such as cancer, opioid dependency, and dementia.
