My main area of interest is understanding the mechanisms by which obesity and insulin resistance affects the myocardium’s metabolism, structure, and function. By using multiple imaging modalities including echocardiography, positron emission tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy in humans, I am translating findings from animal models of obesity and insulin resistance to humans. In doing so, my group has discovered interesting sex-related differences in myocardial metabolism and so, this is another research interest. My clinical interests are in noninvasive imaging and in VO2 metabolic testing in heart failure patients.
