My primary area of research concerns the epidemiology of hospital acquired infections, including surveillance, risk factors and outcomes of infection. The majority of my research has involved use of observational data to study the epidemiology of infectious diseases, including electronic hospital data and administrative data. I have used state billing data and Medicare and private insurer claims data to determine the incidence, risk factors, and outcomes of surgical site infection after a variety of different surgical procedures and state billing and Medicare claims data to study the epidemiology of Clostridium difficile infection at the population-level. I work with a variety of investigators using billing and claims data for clinical, outcomes, and comparative effectiveness research as the Director of the ICTS Center for Administrative Data Research.
