As a member of Ting Wang Lab here at WashU, I study the epigenetic aberrations that are characteristic of cancer, particularly at loci known as transposable elements (TE). These intra-genomic remnants of ancient viruses that have integrated into the human germline are equipped with their own regulatory sequences that influence human gene expression in pathology and health.
