My research interests have focused primarily on topics related to chronic pain. They include assessment methods for pain and disability, including approaches to the assessment of pain in patients with advanced dementia. I also study social psychological factors that impact pain-related clinical judgments and treatment decisions, particularly as those factors impact racial/ethnic healthcare disparities. I also am interested in empirical investigations of research bioethics, particularly the role of institutional review boards in the protection of vulnerable research participants.
