Dr. White conducts research on Parkinson Disease (PD) in the Neuroscience Imaging Laboratories (NIL). The main goal of his research is to utilize brain imaging technology to identify the neural correlates of dopamine loss in PD. To this end, he utilizes resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging and positron emission tomography methods in combination with pharmacologic agents that alter brain dopamine levels. His research in the lab to date has focused on identifying brain circuits and networks in early PD that are modulated by levodopa. He seeks to understand how dopamine pathways change at different stages of the disease, with the long-term goal of developing objective brain imaging measures of disease severity and progression in PD.
