My research team focuses its efforts on technology assessment in pulmonary medicine. We study the characteristics and outcomes of patients with end-stage lung disease, especially those with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and emphysema. To assist with characterization of patients’ disease type, status, course, and response to therapy, we use tools such as genetic, molecular, and imaging tests. We assess interventions such as lung volume reduction surgery, lung transplantation, endobronchial treatments, and other novel therapies. We focus on outcomes assessed by patient preferences, utility scores, and quality-adjusted survival. We also study venous thromboembolism prevention, treatment, diagnosis, and prognosis.
