Epilepsy impacts 1 in 25 individuals, and neurodegeneration affects over 65 million people worldwide. Our focus is to understand the effects of genes on neuronal hyperexcitability and its impact on endoplasmic reticulum stress, thereby leading to downstream inflammation and neurodegeneration. We use patient specific induced pluripotent stem cells as model systems to answer these questions, with the overarching goal of precision medicine.
