The Washington University Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences (ICTS) is the academic hub for clinical and translational science in Missouri, building on three translational research pillars: infrastructure and support, education, and scientific collaborations. Based on these principles, the ICTS has transformed culture and practice around translational research at Washington University (WU) and the BJC HealthCare system, while fostering partnerships with Saint Louis University (SLU), the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis, and the University of Missouri-Columbia (MU). ICTS support has enabled novel clinical studies, multi-center trials, and community engaged research, resulting in discovery and testing of novel diagnostics and therapeutics in varied populations across the lifespan.

The ICTS was established in 2007 through a Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) from the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The ICTS is part of the CTSA program, a national network of medical research institutions working together to accelerate translational research to get more treatments to more patients more quickly.

The ICTS’ ongoing dedication to this mission will continue to transform regional research, dissemination and workforce development.
