Becoming a Resilient Scientist Series: Unit 2 – Exploring Our Self-Talk: Cognitive Distortions and Imposter Fears

3:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m.

NIH-OITE-logoThe NIH OITE is pleased to offer the next installment of the Becoming a Resilient Scientist (BRS) series for trainees and fellows at all levels in the biomedical, behavioral, and social sciences.

The goal of this series is to help trainees develop the resilience they need to navigate challenging situations at work and in life. The series will consist of five webinars, each followed by a small group discussion the following week. The webinars will highlight emotional intelligence competencies needed for academic success and for thriving in research and healthcare careers. We will discuss the cultivation of skills to help trainees realize resilience and identify and deal with obstacles that get in their way. The small group discussions are a chance to engage in an active, facilitated conversation with peers related to the webinar materials. This series is an excellent leadership development opportunity to learn skills trainees can use for themselves, their career, and when they are a leader themselves. While trainees may participate in any of the webinars, it is best to participate in the entire series as the material relates and concepts will be developed throughout the series. Data shows that trainees who attended most of the Becoming the Resilient Scientist series felt that they have become more resilient and were better able to handle stress and conflict in their lives. The workshops and group discussions in the series are:

  • Unit 1. An Introduction to Resilience and Wellness
  • Unit 2. Exploring our Self-Talk: Cognitive Distortions and Imposter Fears
  • Unit 3. Self-Advocacy and Assertiveness for Scientists
  • Unit 4. Developing Feedback Resilience
  • Unit 5. Managing Up to Maximize Mentoring Relationships
Note: There will be no group discussion for Unit 5

The series will start on September 23rd, 2024, and will run until November 18th, 2024. There is no charge for participation, but advanced registration is required. Webinars will be recorded and shared with all registrants. For more information, please visit our webpage and register here.
