Dr. Kimberly Tanner, Professor of Biology at San Francisco University, and Director of SEPAL: The Science Education Partnership and Assessment Laboratory will present a plenary lecture and a luncheon workshop on Evidence-based Teaching for Researchers.

EVENT #1:

9:00am-10:00am Plenary Lecture: This free lecture is open to everyone and provides an overview of evidence-based teaching with demonstrations of specific strategies.

EVENT #2:

12:00pm–5:00pm Lunch & Workshop: This free 5-hour workshop is designed for those with teaching responsibilities and is comprised of 3 learning sessions: 1) Engaging Students and Making Classrooms Inclusive: Cross-Disciplinary Tools, Insights, and Strategies to Promote Student Success; 2) Moving Towards Active Learning, Both Inside and Outside of Class Time; 3) Order Matters: Becoming Metacognitive about Teaching Choices. Lunch will be provided with RSVP. ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Kimberly Tanner, PhD is Professor of Biology and the Director of SEPAL: The Science Education Partnership and Assessment Laboratory within the Department of Biology at San Francisco State University (SFSU). Her research group-SEPAL-investigates how people learn science, especially biology, and how teachers and scientists can collaborate to make science teaching and learning in classrooms-kindergarten through university-more like how scientists work. Dr. Tanner is a founding member of the editorial board for CBE: Life Sciences Education and coauthor of the Approaches to Biology Teaching and Learning series, which translates education research and pedagogical strategies into language accessible to undergraduate biology faculty.
