My proximal research goals include elucidating current trends in pediatric sedation, with respect to both drug choice, dose and duration, and their impact on adverse events, lengths of stay, and long-term outcomes. My overarching goal is to develop and test multimodal, standardized, objective measures of adequate sedative depth to both minimize unnecessary sedation and optimize patient outcomes. My long-term goal is to design clinical trials to transition sedative management from institutional, anecdotal practices to evidence-based, individualized medicine.
