My research focuses on improving the implementation of evidence-based treatments for substance use disorders. There are effective medication treatments for opioid use disorder and for alcohol use disorder, yet few persons with either of these disorders receive them. I use “big data”– including insurance claims and national survey data– to increase our understanding of treatment disparities and examine where in the health care system the greatest gaps in care exist. Results from these studies can be used to inform where interventions to improve treatment implementation for opioid use disorder and alcohol use disorder are most needed.
