My current research focuses on two areas of genetic epidemiology and statistical human genetics. The first is the development and application of new statistical methods and bioinformatic tools to deal with high-dimensional data in genetic studies of complex human traits. Interests include machine learning techniques and fast and reliable discovery of important gene-gene and gene-environment interactions in high-throughput genetic studies of complex diseases. The second area is conducting real-world genetic studies on common human disease using the latest biotechnologies and most advanced analytical designs. Specific disease areas of interest include hypertension, hypertensive heart disease and cardiovascular diseases in general, obesity and metabolic syndrome, and kidney diseases.
