Donna B. Jeffe, PhD, MA

Professor of Medicine

Washington University in St. Louis (WU)

Dr. Jeffe is the Director of the Health Behavior, Communication, and Outreach Core, a resource of the Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences and Siteman Cancer Center. She studies social, psychological, and environmental factors in relation to health-risk/health-promoting behaviors and emotional adjustment to disease. She has expertise in survey development/validation, psychometrics, qualitative-research design and data analysis, and educational program evaluation research. Her clinical research focuses on quality of life in cancer patients and survivors, with special interest in health disparities. Based on the premise that a more diverse scientific workforce will lead to a greater diversity of perspectives and ideas for new and important clinical research questions, and in response to national calls to increase biomedical-research workforce diversity, she also is joint PI of a NIH-funded, national cohort study, seeking to identify factors associated with pursuit of and retention in biomedical-research careers among physicians from underrepresented minority groups.
