The preterm neonatal gut microbiome is decimated by antibiotics leading to dysregulated immune responses, late-onset sepsis, and bacteremia from antibiotic resistant organisms. My research will identify microbial and host biomarkers predictive of bacteremic and culture-negative late-onset sepsis providing a microbiome- individualized framework for future antibiotic prescription in the neonatal intensive care unit to mitigate negative consequences.
