Adipose tissue, obesity, and related pathologies, such as metabolic syndrome, are my areas of research interest and experience, in addition to metabolic circadian disruption and pharmacological prevention, especially in models induced by high fat/high carbohydrate diets. I am also interested in the very different metabolic states women go through from the reproductive years through menopause. While menopause is well characterized and known for its increase in general and central obesity, perimenopause is not as well defined, particularly in terms of the metabolic response facing nutritional challenges. Dysregulated metabolism, in part through oxidative stress and inflammation, plays a role not only in obesity but also in other female conditions. My goal is to contribute to this field by better understanding the complexity of women’s body weight regulation, which in addition to being a widespread cause for concern, has an enormous impact on women’s long-term health, both physically and mentally.
