I work at the intersection of surgery, data science, and health informatics, with a focus on leveraging clinical data to improve surgical care and outcomes. My research centers on the use of large language models to extract information from unstructured clinical notes. These models allow for scalable identification of surgical complications, risk factors, and outcomes that are often buried in free-text, enabling data-driven quality improvement and clinical decision support. Through this work, I aim to develop tools that enhance perioperative care, support real-time surveillance, and inform precision interventions across surgical populations. My broader goal is to advance the role of informatics in surgical practice by integrating advanced NLP methods with electronic health records to generate actionable insights that directly impact patient care.
