For the next 2-3 years, I will be a research fellow in Tim Ley’s laboratory. My research project centers around the genomics of Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia, both in a mouse model and in human disease. I remain dedicated to clinical service and will stay active clinically during this time–I will see patients in Nancy Bartlett’s clinic 1/2 day a week and rotate on the bone marrow transplant service for 1 month this year. I am interested in clinical research as well. Two clinical trials that I helped to develop just opened for enrollment here (involving the monoclonal antibody, eculizimab, in patients with atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome). I am currently working on writing an investigator-initiated clinical trial using a novel therapy for patients with relapsed leukemia. In the future, my research findings in the laboratory will hopefully allow concomitant translational studies in patients. Ultimately, I plan on being an academic physician-scientist with overlapping clinical and research interests involving leukemia/lymphoma and bone marrow transplant.
