The focus of our laboratory is on developing effective therapies for sepsis. Specifically, we are concentrating on prevention of the widespread apoptosis of immune effector cells that is a hallmark of the disorder. A variety of anti-apoptotic strategies are employed. In addition, we are endeavoring to inhibit the immunosuppressive phenotype that occurs during sepsis and which contributes to the immunoparalysis that is a major feature of this disorder.
