Providing direct clinical care in diverse settings for nearly half my lifetime, I have witnessed the important role social determinants of health (SDOH) play in determining health outcomes. Too often health appears to be more tied to zip code than many of the other key health determinants. The end result is a greater burden of illness for our most marginalized citizens. More research needs to be done evaluating interventions aimed at improving social conditions of these individuals. What I am most passionate about is caring for the community by becoming a content expert in health care delivery systems that better support patient needs and policy development that addresses health inequity.
